Assignments | How to make a submission to an assignment in Brightspace

Now that you know where to find and how to access your course assignments, this article will explain how submission to a Brightspace assignment works.

Now that you accessed your Assignment (see how to do so here) you will see the submission page of it:

On the page you will see the following information:

  1. Title of the assignment
  2. Turnitin information - optional; only appears if the lecturer has turned on the TurnItIn option for your assignment
  3. Instructions for the assignment - optional; only appears if the lecturer has included this information
  4. Submit Assignmentsection:
    • Files - indicates how many files have you uploaded yet so far
    • submission buttons Add a File, Record Audio, Record Video
    • Comments - optional; in the text box you can leave a comment for your lecturer on your submission

How to submit

On the submission page to submit your work:

  1. Click one of the buttons
    1. Add a File - to upload your submission based on the lecturer' instructions (submission file types supported by Brightspace)
    2. Record Audio - to record an audio file directly through this button
    3. Record Video - to record a video file directly through this button

a. Add a File button

When you choose to click on Add a File button a window pops out with options from where you want to upload your file:

You have the option to select from:

1. My Computer

Select this option if you wish to add a file stored on your computer.

2. My Locker

Select this option if you wish to add a file from your Locker in Brightspace.

3. Group Locker

Select this option if if you wish to add a file from your group's locker (if this was made available to your group by the lecturer). When you upload a file in the group Locker, you will be able to select this file here.

4. OneDrive Files

Select this option if you wish to add a file from your WUR OneDrive.

If you are using this option for the first time you will be prompted to sign in first. Click the button to sign in and you will be automatically signed in to your WUR OneDrive. In the next step you will be able to see its contents, the folders and documents of your personal WUR OneDrive. Click the Selectbox(es) of the files you want to add as your submission to the assignment.

Then, click the blue button Add to add it to and return to the Submission page of your assignment.

b. Record Audio button

Once you click on the button Record Audio a window pops out where you can add a audio recording as a submission directly to the Submission page of your assignment. Simply click on the blue button New Recording. You will have up to 1 minute or recording time available.

After you record the audio the recording will appear in the same window and before you add it you can re-listen to it, and even download it after clicking on the three vertical dots.

To continue, click Add. You will be taken to the next step where you can optionally add a title and a description to your file. Click Add to add it and return to the Submission page of your assignment.

c. Record Video button

When you click on the button Record Video a window pops out. Here, click on New Recording button to start recording. You have up to 30 minutes available to record.

Once you are finished recording, click Add.

This will take you to the next step where you can optionally enter the Title, Description, and select Audio Language of the recording. Click Add when you are finished to add this to and return to the Submission page of your assignments.

When you have added the file(s) via either Add a File, Record Audio, or Record Video buttons they will appear on the Submission page.

2. Click the button Submit to send your submission to the system.

How many files you can submit depends on how your lecturer set up the assignment. It is possible that you might upload an unlimited number of files per submission, or you will only be allow to submit one file per submission.

After you click Submit on your Submission page a new page with confirmation on your submission will open:

Check Turnitin® Similarity score of your Submission

If an assignment is a Turnitin® assignment, and the lecturer enabled the option for you to check your Similarity score on plagiarism, you can follow the process as described in the section Note on the Review Assignment Submission page (for more visit: How to review my submission's Turnitin® Similarity score).

If you click blue button Done, you will be returned to the Assignments homepage. There you can see then see the completion status of your recent submission; number of submissions to system, and number of submitted files:
