Digital Accessibility | How to use Readspeaker
ReadSpeaker is a text-to-speech solution that converts written content created in Brightspace into audio.
This article shows how to:
Accessing ReadSpeaker
ReadSpeaker can be accessed in two different ways:
1. HTML Content, Quizzes, and Discussion Forums
- Open an HTML content (as shown in the following example), Quiz or Discussion forum
- Once you have clicked on Listen in the ReadSpeaker toolbar, the toolbar expands to show the following options:

- Listen
- Play/Resume
- Stop
- Skip backward (5 sec)
- Skip forward (5 sec)
- Volume
- Reading speed
- Close player
2. Documents (PDF, Word, PowerPoint)
- Open a PDF, Word document or PowerPoint in the course

- Scroll down below the document and click Open with docReader

- The document will open in a new ReadSpeaker docReader window with the following options:

- Show/hide sidebar
- Previous
- Next
- Page number
- Listen
- Pause
- Stop
- Skip backward (5 sec)
- Skip forward (5 sec)
- Layout mode
- Text mode
- Help
- Language: You can change the language and voice of the reader.
